The newest support class added in the digital version of Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion, the Void Warden is a support centered around mind control.
With the release of the newest DLC, Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion, four starting classes were introduced into the digital version of this legacy tabletop game. Players looking for a supportive mercenary to add to their party will find value in the Void Warden, a support character that primarily deals damage by controlling enemies and allies to attack. While the game recommends using the Void Warden in larger parties, this powerful support can hold its weight in even two-character teams.
Utilizing Gloomhaven‘s Void Warden to their greatest potential can be a tricky task. The character has poor initiative and minimal direct attacks. This causes the character to thrive in large engagements, but falter if ever left in a duel. The key to Void Warden positioning is to stay just behind frontline mercenaries, like Gloomhaven’s new Red Guard class. With proper spacing and coordination, the Void Warden can be one of the most powerful support classes in Gloomhaven.
With regards to perks, upgrading the Void Warden’s modifier deck may not seem meaningful at first, due to the nature of mind control abilities. However, Master Influence turns this mechanic on its head, allowing the player to use their own deck for attacks they force enemies to make. This is an essential mechanic for the Void Warden due to its proclivity to curse enemies. With plentiful methods for infusing Dark, players may wish to grab two points into Frost followed by two points into Umber. Lastly, Resilient can be beneficial for ignoring some nasty scenario effects, allowing players to dominate this tactical tabletop RPG.
Best Starting Cards For The Void Warden In Gloomhaven
When it comes to cards players should be using for Gloomhaven‘s Void Warden, Master Influence is quintessential to a mind control build. Signs of the Void is a fairly lackluster card, but its 15 initiative make it necessary for any starting build. Of the cards available to new Void Wardens, the following deck should prove strong for new players to the character:
- Signs of the Void
- Gift of the Void
- Freeze the Soul
- Wicked Scratch
- Turn Out the Lights
- Lure the Void
- Grasp of Doom
- Master Influence
- Suggestion
- Resigned Frenzy
- Sap Warmth / Black Boon
The bottom of Resigned Frenzy is an extremely powerful and versatile card, strong with or without Dark infusion. If playing in a two-character party, players may wish to use Black Boon over Sap Warmth. Altogether, these Void Warden cards should assist any Gloomhaven beginner in their quest against the Gloom.
