The SA Reserve Bank was hacked by a criminal syndicate on 12 August and the local security cluster was none the wiser about the cyber-attack, until the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) tipped off the Hawks.
Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana made the revelation during a SA Local Government Association Eastern Cape Members Provincial Assembly in East London at the end of November.
A video of the minister’s address during the event has gone viral after it surfaced last week.
